Feeling New

February is always a lousy month. For me, it ended with fever, flu and several days in flannel pajamas. I really don't get sick very often, but this was a bitch. I'm lucky I don’t get intestinal distress (speaking politely), but the aches and chills were torture enough. I'm shaking off the fog, and doing some pictures is just the thing to remind what it's like to wear real clothes again.

Right before I got sick I picked up my new glasses!

I've been wearing them while I was sick, but with no make-up and pretty sloppy hair, I haven't been able to really appreciate how fun they are. They're a bit of a departure for me, although my first glasses ever were cat-eye, when I was 9 years old. Mr. Sparkle only laughed a little when he saw them, and he hasn't been teasing me. I'm taking that as a good sign.

Sex-ay black boots, recently thrifted

This outfit is a variation of what I wore going out last week, before I got sick. The denim coat is from Talbot's sale rack a few years ago. It's lightweight, so I wore it as a tunic with black leggings, boots, and turtleneck, plus a faux snakeskin belt.

Sunshine today!

Here's a detail of the glasses - they're two-toned on the front, then the arms have a diamond-patterned metal part near the front. The rest of the arm is plastic with a raspberry leopard print!

I'm also wearing a bead-man brooch I made with colored wire.

I feel like I've been reborn from the flu, new glasses and haircut, and a new month. I'm still not very sparkly, but at least I'm dressed.

March came in like a lamb, and Spring is springing all around us here! I hope you're seeing new growth in your lives!

And I almost forget - still a little spacey - I'm linking up with Patti and the gang for Visible Monday!

Val

Cute outfit! I love it. And your specs are so stylish and really look great on you.

So sorry you have been ill. I had a nasty virus not long ago and it was a beast! I am still holding on to an annoying cough. Ugh!

Great photos too, of a cool outfit - get you, rocking the hell out of a mini dress, I love it! I think you are really getting into the whole photo thing, Val - I see a supermodel emerging!
Good to hear you are feeling better now. xxx

Great glasses Val, and so is that belted denim jacket dress you've got on here. This must have been yesterday? The sunshine was fabulous, I was out walking in it as much as possible. I see a supermodel emerging too!

Great glasses....but then I am a fan of great specs being extremely nearsighted myself. You and I have similar look...but I am NOT posting as long as I'm at my current 30# overweight status. Keep me inspired. You're doing a great job of doing so thus far!

Love the glasses and they look wonderful on you! Such a great color and fun style. Glad you're feeling better! We've been passing the bug around at work for several months now. You start feeling better and then the germ mutates and attacks again. Maybe the nicer weather here will kill it once and for all! Oohh, I'm sounding pretty violent here but, like you, I'm tired of being sick!

I hope you feel 200% today and are getting some of this PNW sunshine your way.

The glasses are very pretty and suits you so well! Love the expression raspberry leopard print! :-) The flu (or flus, as there have been three different versions going around here in Sweden) have been very naughty this year! Glad to hear that you are better!

Gorgeous new glasses!! Sorry about the flu. I've been sick on and off this winter, it's awful! But nothing is worse than those body aches and chills. After having H1N1 the last go around, I never want a flu again. Sending you lots of healthy and happy vibes.

It'll be later this week, but I'm hoping spring hits properly by then!

Damn, woman! Sex-ay is an understatement! You look HOT!

And I love your glasses! My first glasses were cat-eyes but back then they weren't at all stylish. I am glad to come full circle and see them looking so chic.

I'm so glad that you are feeling better. It's miserable, feeling bad and looking even worse! But you look like you are well on the road to recovery.

By the way, I recently purchased that same Talbot's coat at Goodwill and I love it! I am going to have to give it the Sparkle treatment in your honor.

Nobody looks as good in glasses as you do. Really, dead honest and completely envious. And those are SUPER! So cute, this outfit.
I'm so sorry you had the very terrible flu ... nothing to mess with. But happy you are feeling better, out and about!

Hello, I'm a new reader from Germany and I love the name of your blog "late blooming sparkle". You are more ´"sparkle" and not so much "late". Two days ago I had birthday. The last year was very difficult for me because I whined because of getting older. I wasn't really happy and saw all the disadvantages of aging. I have to let go my two daughters which are 20 and 17 (they still live here at home but they have grown up and want to find their own way). So I stay behind with all my fears and my unfavorable situation. But I want to change that! I want to become a happy woman again. It's not so bad to be at the end of the forties I only have to change my mind. Women like you are a really good example for me.
You really look amazing with great charisma.
Greetings from your newest fan Eva

Hello Val,
I hope you feel better now and recovered completely.
You look great with that stylish red glasses, the perfect addition to the beautiful color of your hair. I never had cat-eye glasses but I think I also need one. They give the face such a mystic impression.
Take good care of you mysterious lady!

Your new glasses are fantastic! Bugger the flu, though. UGH.
Ha, you reckon I should do a capsule wardrobe challenge?! Funnily enough, although the thought makes me squirm a little with fear, I think I could. It seems to be the way I pack for any trip, big or small, and I didn't even realise I was using that concept! Doh!

My first glasses were cat eye - in the 2nd grade, back in 19, uh, moving on. Those are beautiful on you; I am seriously jealous. And you are rocking those leggings. I think you might be a maven, Val.
