Oh, Nurse!

If you've ever had a job that involved serving cocktails, you probably had some vacuous pea-brain call you Nurse when he needed another drink. It's never funny, and the waitress WILL roll her eyes as soon as she turns her back. I've been that waitress.

Remember when nurses wore white tights? (How's that for a segue?) I never thought I'd like to wear white tights, but I wanted a light neutral color so I bought white tights. And I like them! I wore my black and tan striped skirt (previously seen here) with white for a spring look.

Sorry this is overexposed, and the white tights add 10 pounds to my legs. But life is full of imperfections, and so we move on...

Mr. Sparkle said that I'd been dressing really well lately, and he complimented me on this outfit. Until I added my lime green cardigan.

Cardi and tights - Target; top - Christopher & Banks; skirt - Old Navy; shoes - TJ Maxx
Again, overexposed. I really need to learn to use the settings on my camera.

Anyway, when I put the cardi on, Mr. Sparkle said, You've just ruined it.I didn't agree with him, so I wore it this way to work. With safe shoes.

But later I took pictures with my new shoes - the ones that made me fall down go boom - which have just had new heel caps put on. I haven't worn them on a slick floor yet.

Beadman pendant by me; earrings from Etsy; new shoes - Chelsea Crew
I am so open to suggestions here. I liked the outfit, but I'd love to hear your opinions on what worked and what didn't. Was Mr. Sparkle right in this case?

Val

I love everything except the tights, and not because they look inherently bad, they just don't look "connected" to the skirt or rest of the outfit to me. I think you should try this with colored tights.

I actually really like white tights. And your legs look very nice. But they are a risk. Maybe darker tights would calm down the patients.

You have lovely slim legs to wear white well. I , on the other hand, don't!

Hey Val! I think your legs look great in your white tights. I'm with hubby on this one. The green sweater throws off the outfit. Love, love the shoes and accessories, but I might try a faded denim jacket or better yet, a vibrant coloured jacket or sweater...something the same saturation as the shoes...even red would be cool.

Let me know what you think of what I think. I'm always hesitant to say things, cause you never really know until you try it on.

I love those white tights, you look very "mod" in them with that cool stripy mini skirt and your legs are fabulous! x

Of course you should wear white tights. I love the straight white tigths with the turquoise sandals, it looks amazing. I love white tights to the striped skirt too, but here I would perfer a more creamy white. The look with the striped skirt reminds me to the 60s, it's so cute!

Hrm! Breaking it down, I like the outfit at the top as it is. But when you add the cardigan with the green loafers, it throws off the tones. The skirt and loafers have a balance of brown that when mixed with the white look okay.

However when you swap in the aqua pumps, the balance with the cardigan is restored. Creating a 3-leveled outfit rather than 2, where white is your dominant, the saturated colors are secondary, and the striped skirt becomes the tertiary 'pop' of print.

As for the white tights, I think your gams look great! I wanted a lighter color tight and picked up a pair in soft 'sage' green and alice blue. Not quite as harsh as white tights, but nothing I wear is really quite as light as white so they work as alternatives.

You look stunning with the white tights - and hubby is right in complimenting you on the great styling. I personally prefer your look without the cardi, more the colour. Another lower toned cardi would look fine.
And just love, love, love your beadman pendant - so original and fun...J

I like it better without the cardie! But I also like it with the Cardie! It's the fun thing of just having the monochrome effect!!!x

I do own a pair of white tights that I wore before with a black and white outfit.
I also remember when nurses wore white tights!
Your new shoes are fantastic.
Happy Easter to you

Okay, Val, you asked for it and I can't lie...
I love this whole look, especially the last one with all the colour pops. The look feels very mod without the cardi, but with the colours it has more of a pop-art sense. White tights are curious beasts and I think you've worn them in a groovetastic way.

Oh, just reading the comments makes me realize there are as many opinions as there are commentators. Here's mine!
I see two outfits here:

' turq shoes, white tights, white (or tan) shirt and a red cardigan.
Red would anchor the shoes being the same color value ("darkness") and it would add another pop of color further up so people would actually be looking at your face instead of focusing just on your shoes (Or black jacket and a red scarf)

' safe shoes, white tights, a tan top, the lime cardigan.
The white shirt doesn't work for me, it breaks you visually in two. Maybe this is the reason why someone said earlier that the white tights don't connect with the skirt. I think tan (the color of stripes in the skirt) would work wonders on top.

I always find it helpful to arrange them on floor and take a photo for a quick visual. or holding up to mirror, it sees more than the bare eye.

The misbehaving shoes are beautiful with the entire outfit honey, Mr Sparkle was sadly very wrong I'm afraid. My apologies to the dear chap, but MORE IS MORE!!!!!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxooxoox

I sometimes have had the same idea to wear white tights in spring, but I must say I've never felt at ease in them...

Wear what you like and don't care about others opinions.I like the beadman you made yourself and the shoes are a stunner.

Very cute. I've bought two pairs of white tights (opaque and patterned) and find them useful in creating outfits. Sometimes they add just the right touch. Yours, here, work nicely with the clothes.

I wore white tights as a nurse in the 60's, and haven't been able to wear them since. Luckily the uniform went by the wayside!

I agree with Kelly. Wear what you love! And I love your new shoes.

I don't own any white tights, for the reason that you suggest, I worry they will make my legs look a little.. ahem, stocky, shall we say? But looking at yours (great legs and tights!) that isn't the case at all, so perhaps I should try them. The striped skirt, white top, tights and loafers do have a 1960s mod feel to them, you need big circular earrings and eyeliner, Val, complete the look!
It doesn't matter what we, or the Mr, think about the addition of the green cardigan - if you love it, that's what matters. And your green shoes are wondeful - just go steady in them, no falling over! xxxx

I have been pondering about wearing tights for the summer. I need a "shaping" effect (lacking your lovely Pins). Probably not white, but some pale color as I hate seeing summer frocks with black hose. Sparkly Val, beware. I may have to lure you into a vacant area and steal those shoes!!

Personally I like the first outfit, but I am not a huge fan of white tights. I bought some a few years back and once I saw myself in them they promptly went into the Halloween only pile.

I find the cardi just a bit too much.

All that said who cares what I think? LOL It's you that is wearing it and you that needs to be happy with yourself.

I don't like the way white tights look on anything other than a mod or a nurse. In high school someone called them proplaptic legs, encased in condoms tights, and it sort of stuck in my head. White isn't particularly flattering. Hubs right on the cardi. Sorry. But good to know he's paying attention. The cute shoes are crazzzzy cute. Ditch the tight- wearing the fancy kicks, and maybe find a good black summer weight blazer.

And rock on.

I love your aqua shoes! I have a pair of shoes that re slick too. They never got any better. I found some sandpaper type stickers made to go on the bottom of shoes to give them some grip. I love them. I purchased mine in the shoe department at Wal Mart.

Love the white tights! I think a more starkly contrasting skirt would work better, to better define your top and bottom matching, but overall it's a great outfit. I'd have to say that the green cardigan isn't really helping it, though, sorry LOL! Perhaps a more aqua-themed skirt would help pull it and the shoes into the outfit?
