Paris!

Yes, in June we're going to Paris!

Texas. Paris, Texas.

I'm sure it will have its own charms, one of them being that I don't have to try to remember how to conjugate French verbs.

I have a cousin there, and several more cousins from other equally glamorous locales (Nebraska, Iowa) will convene there for a semi-annual reunion. It's mostly women cousins on that side, and they're all loads of fun. I've never been to Texas before, so it's my virgin voyage to the Lone Star State!

I'm starting to plan my wardrobe, so I'm trying out a little black cardi (fast fashion) with this thrifted aqua maxi dress (Worthington). I've tried it a few different ways, so here we go!

belt over cardi

belt under cardi
cardi off
no belt
I think what I need is a new belt, something soft, not black, with a round buckle or a tie. What do you think?

I was going to shorten the dress, but I decided that I'd done enough altering things lately. It's the only real maxi I have, and the slits are kind of fun, so I'll live with it and love it the way it is.

Here are the accessories I'm playing around with - turquoise earrings (gift), two homemade necklaces, my mother's neck, and my new Chelsea Crew shoes.

After Paris,we're going to drive down to Austin for a couple days. Anybody have any tips about what to see there? Where are the best music venues, and best restaurants?

I'm linking up with Visible Monday at Not Dead Yet Style. See y'all there!

Val

Well aren't you a lucky lady? This beauttiful dress will be right at home in Paris as well as the black cardi. The dress looks lovely on you with or without the cardi. I do like it better belted, it just seems more flattering this way. Maybe try a skinny gold belt? I sure hope you plan to post lots of Paris pictures.

Please do not shorten the dress, it has the perfect length. You look fabulous in it!
I would prefer the belt over the cardi and I think the black belt is perfect. Your sandals go fantastic with this dress.

I also like the belt over the cardi, it looks really sophisticated. And the black belt is perfect, you don't need a new one. In contrast to Sabine's opinion I would shorten the dress. You have pretty legs, why should the be hidden? And - I don't know how it is in Texas - in Europe are long dresses a little bit unfashionable - unless you go to the opera.

I like the first look the best - the last one is NOT a good look. I would also consider shortening the dress to show your legs!

Lovely dress Val....personally I would leave the length and add an aqua blue thin belt to bring out the lovely blue tones:)How fabulous to be heading to Paris!!

Oooo, I like that dress a lot, especially with the green shoes. My fave mix? Belted with cardi off. And since you asked, I think a thin belt, maybe a delicate chain thingy that has an end hanging down that you can twirl or even smack people with would be loads of fun. I'm excited about your trip!

Well, you know I love a maxi so I think it would be good to leave it long. You have plenty of other dresses/skirts which show your legs, why not wear a different style sometimes, and the print and colours are so beautiful.
I like the belt over the cardigan very much. But I am wondering about a colour other than black, if you need a cover-up layer? Tone in with a green or blue, or go for a contrast but something softer than black?
Hey, I dunno, I'm no stylist, and you'll get a hundred different opinions, Val! Btw, gorgeous jewellery.
How exciting to have a holiday planned! xxxxx

How fabulous, lucky you!
I love the dress, belted, no cardi. If I was being picky I'd say a long pendant necklace rather than a shorter one to accentuate your fab bod! xxx

Okay, you got me. From your opening, I thought you were crossing the pond. What language do they speak in Texas?!

Fooled me! I like the belted under the sweater look the best, but no bad choices.
As Shybiker wrote, best brush up on your Texan talk : > Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday and have a wonderful trip!

Paris! You lucky thing! I love that mzxi and the side split action is great - think you're right to keep it long. Will be perfect for summer in Paris and looks great with the little black cardi.

Val, you look great. I really like the belted look with the cardi, and I love the dress long, with that sexy slit up the side. And your new shoes: ah-mazing. So exciting to have a holiday to plan! xoxo

The slits are HOT! :) I agree you should try a wider, more decorative belt, even one that sits a bit low. I kept some great belts from the 80s that serve as my "interesting" belts to this day.

I got REAL excited when I thought I was going to Paris vicariously through you...lol. I always fall for the Paris, Texas thang.

Never been to Texas!! I have to believe that to some, it's as exotic as Paris France is to us. You should have a ball!! I love the maxi as is, and think the sweater is great in all it's iterations. You'll be the belle of the reunion. XXOO

Sounds like a fun vacation. I've not been to Paris, Texas, buy I saw the Wim Wenders film if that counts for anything.
I prefer the dress belted with the cardigan but I think not belted with a long necklace or pendant as Vix suggested would look nice to. It's always fun to plan a travel wardrobe. Goodness knows I've done it enough.
Love those turquoise earrings!

I love maxis, so this dress with its aqua color and slits should be fun for travel. Your new Chelsea Crew shoes couldn't be more perfect for the ensemble! Hope you share your adventures in Paris with us.

I kind of like the width of the belt...especially over the cardigan. Your waist is already tiny so you don't need the width of the belt to do camouflage on your bits. And blue is so great on you.

I have always wanted to go to Austin...so let us know what you find that's amazing!!!

Alyssa

Pack it all, but put the little cardi in the bottom of your suitcase... in June, Paris TX will be too hot to wear sleeves of any kind.
All beautiful ... no don't chop the dress unless you really want to. Very pretty on you. Very nice jewelry.

I like the long maxi!!! Maybe a super skinny brown belt--you know the sort of braided kind? If you could get a really long one and wrap it twice that would be sweet!
Love the jewelry, but I would add a longer necklace with that kind of maxi and add bracelets. That summer maxi screams for bangles! I like it sans cardi :)
So cute!
Can't wait to hear more deets about your upcoming trip,
Becky :)
