I Hate Fridays

I know most people like Fridays, but when the alarm clock rings for the fifth day in a row, I hate that day. At least I hate the part between 8:30 and 5:30 when I'm working for The Man. And some of the people I work with have the social skills of a spatula. It might be fun if I had a window and a more creative and colorful job. But my desk is gray, and I have two beige walls and two modular walls that are covered with fabric that looks like mushroom vomit.

Since I woke up way over on the wrong side of the bed today, I wore some old standbys that are both comfortable and effortless. I figured this would help reduce my mad desire to spill coffee on my computer and run stapled paper through the printer. It worked – I got through the day without incident.

I was TOO LAZY to take my sunglasses off
The lime green cardi is part of a twin set from Target, and I have gotten so much use out of this cardi on its own. The color is vibrant and bright, but doesn't overwhelm my pale skin. It was briefly seen here.

Top and skirt - Christopher & Banks; sandals - Bare Traps
The asymmetrical skirt has been seen before, here and here. It's not tight anywhere – I could be naked from the waist down and be just as comfortable as I am in this skirt.

This top is one of my favorite summer tops - little dots in purple, yellow-orange and teal.

Boob shot! Locket necklace engraved with "V" - gift from my parents circa 1969
The sandals (seen in my last post) are so comfortable. They don't flop, they don't rub, they've got a comfy sole. The only thing I would change is to have a peak-a-boo toe, but that would be a different style altogether.

Lest I give a totally bad impression of my workplace, there are some very funny and intelligent people that I work with, mostly men, and they help me get through the week. Heaven help us if we're all in a bad mood at the same time!

Have a good weekend, and Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there!

Now to take my scowling pictures over to Visible Monday...

Val

I'm glad your Friday is over and with it your time served in the sick mushroom cave. Time for you to relax, listen to some bossa nova with a martini, and pretend you're on your yacht in the Mediterranean, unless you really do have such a yacht.

Uggghhhh work is tolerable if one has wonderful work mates, but you simply must do something about those walls! I suggest thrifting some fabuloso fabric that matches your cardi and turn your workspace into a glorious green room ... everyone will flock to you, seeking calm, refuge and shrieks of joy!! xoxoxo

You look great! Sounds like you need to decorate your office a bit and make it look great as well. Nothing more boring in a job than beige walls and a gray desk. I wouldn't like working in that setting either. :(

"...working for The Man" -- we speak the same language! Kids these days look at me funny when I use phrases from our youth.

I'm impressed that you woke up on the wrong side of the bed and still decided to post an outfit. Admirable!

Looking very pretty, not like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed at all!! Summer agrees with you! Loving the khaki skirt and little sleeveless polka dot top.
Work can suck sometimes--just make jokes with the co-workers you like for entertainment!

Oh work colleagues... Like family, we don't get to choose them, and we're stuck with them, whether we like them or not! At least there are a few with better social skills than kitchen implements.
I agree, the green cardigan is a great shade on you, light and bright and zingy! Thanks for the boob shot, always a winner! xxxx

Hi Val!

I'm starting a new job tomorrow hope i have nice colleagues and nice environment, but so far what i have seen looks pretty good - What i'm happy about it that i will probably see some sun through the day - At my last job i was confined in a corner with no windows and my colleagues would not talk much and the job was boring, so things can only get better i say -
I love your outfit, it's work appropriate, relaxed, casual, confortable, it's perfect!
The cardi adds a bit a whooomp and the color is ideal for you complexion

Have a nice Sunday Val!

Especially when a crazy week is over I like to wear on Friday a colorful and comfy combination. Often something that makes my colleagues smile. Your choise is cute and perfect for Friday. I love the spotted top and the blue sandals as well. Green is the color of hope so a goods start into a hopefully relaxed weekend.

This is a fabulous comfy outfit! I love the length and swing of the skirt, and the white top is a great cut on you.

Sounds like you need some art to go on those walls. My bedroom is the color of dijon mustard. Very yuck! But the large artwork helps.

Glad to hear that Friday went by without anything major! I instead love Friday coz over here in the Middle East, Friday is the first day of the weekend! Love the look without the cardi more by the way :)

You always crack me up...I truly know people with spatula personalities and can imagine what the color of mushroom vomit looks like!!! Anyway, aren't those stand-bys the greatest? Some days I try on 4 complete outfits and hate them all, only to glab a stand-by at the last possible nanosecond. Score!

LOL at social skills of a spatula! I know some too. But your cute, comfortable outfit helped you through the day, hooray for good clothes! Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.

At least when you're having a bad day, you still seem to entertain us. I must admit, I hate the alarm clock on any given day (not a morning person at all). I can see why that top is one of your favorites, it would be on top 5 list also. Sure hope you have a wonderful Monday:)

Mushroom vomit is such a vivid description. Your humor entertains me with every post, and I must say that your playful poses do the same. The lime green cardi is the color of spring, and looks perfect with your hair.

"social skills of a spatula" ROFLMBO!!
A spatula would be an IMPROVEMENT for some of my co-workers. Dryer lint has more social skills and personality than some of these dudes.

LOVE the outfit--the green cardi is awesome on you!!

Too funny, Val. You've said what a lot of us are thinking, especially on a Friday. Makes me remember what I love about being a teacher: it all comes to an end every May and we can recharge over the summer. Every job should offer that!

Mutha's Day, indeed! I spend half my life in an identical bad mood. Good always to have bad-mood-day clothes to rely on.
Hope your week is better, kid ... things can only get better, at some point!
Big hugs if you like them, or
you can just tell me to buzz off.

I get your "Friday" mood. But what can you do but deal?!? I love the colors together. Lime green and beige. You look comfy and chill. Hope your w/e was better.

I had that same cardi in yellow but I gained so much weight while I had it, that it looked like a bolero on me! HEEHEE!

Well you know what I like best about this outfit, yes? Yup, the polka dot top.

Hope you had a bright and happy weekend. It sounds as though your Friday was a bit rough.

I love the polka-dot top also!

I have to admit, your workspace does sound depressing. Mine is actually prett nice... but many of my clients smell... to put it delicately... horrifying!

I love the lime green cardigan. And your top is very cute.
How about putting paintings or posters or colourful scarfs up those vomet walls? To give you something pretty to stare at.
