Motto Mojo

Check out this cuff I bought from Zalina's Etsy shop, My Peace of Jewelry

She has lots of other cool things, too, but I bought this because of the message – let it go.

I figured this would be a good thing to remind me not to get too wound up at work – or any time.
I wrote about that in a message to the lovely Zalina, and she replied with a story about her mother calling her when she had bad days at work, and they would repeat "Let it go, let it go" and end up laughing. So now the cuff has a message AND a great story to go with it! I'm trying to feel the laughter and the letting go, but I also just love wearing the cuff. It's kind of a mix between graceful and funky, which are good words to describe the style I aspire to. I'm still working on that…

coat with pointy shoulder pads - Gallery from TJ Maxx; skirt - JCP; boots - Target

scarf - museum gift shop; shirt - JCP
Awhile back I found a little tag in the pocket of my red raincoat. It says, Life is a journey, Stay Warm, Keep Dry. It was fun discovering it, because I'd already had the coat for about a year. What a cool thing to add to a mass-produced garment!

Do you have any mottos or adages, in your life or your wardrobe? Something that grounds you or helps you get through the day? I've always liked the last two (haunting) lines from "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost. They seem to echo the sentiment "Life is a Journey." Or as I commented to Melanie at Bag and a Beret, life is performance art. It happens and then it's gone. And I mean that in both the everyday and in a lifetime, just like those two lines mean two things:

And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

And the Visible Monday party's just starting at Not Dead Yet Style!

Um, have you been in my closet Val? Love what you're wearing, and how special to discover that tag.

Love your stamped cuff also.

Cool cuff and I love the little tag in the coat! The fact that someone took the time to think of that and execute it makes me smile. A few years ago I bought a woven collar for one of my dogs that had been made in Canada. While I was adjusting it, I found a small tag on the underside that just said, "Hello, eh?"

the cuff is great. I love that shop! "let it go" is not my motto but I definitely live that way!

Love the quote cuff! I often admire similar style ones on etsy. Curse of the tiny wrist,

I love your boots and amazing jacket! Little details like the tag make me love pieces a million times more.

I guess my motto is really "Be positive". Since I've made a conscious decision to not be so negative, I've been a lot happier. I look for the silver lining in even the worst situations.

I love your red trench and what a wonderful way of wearing clothes - with mottoes.

With both mottoes I agree. Although I not always manage to keep dry and worm.
What I like in blogging is to watch other women on their journey and to tell them about mine.
Your red coat is a good looking travel compagnion and the cuff made by Zalina a wonderful reminding piece of her jewelry.

Vix took the words out of my mouth, you do look like a Woman of Purpose, marching forth to sort life and its difficulties with a firm hand!
You look great in red, Val.
Love the bangle, though I fear I am not good at living by that motto... My partner says I can bear a grudge for England! xxxx

I wish I could buy one of these bracelets for every girl in the high school where I teach!! This red jacket was made for you, Val! Super cool look! Have a wonderful Monday!

I love Zalina's jewelry too, and esp this cuff. Great message/story. And such a great look too, all warm and dry and colorful! thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.

The cuff is cool and your trench coat is so vibrant and makes me smile. The mottos are great. My favorite motto is a scripture Jeremiah 29:11.

Benjamin Franklin's motto is pretty cool: "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy!" But back to fashion...I like your thoughts about being both graceful and funky...I could totally go with that!

I LOVE that poem, for many reasons, and was just quoting it the other night. Yes, for real!!! Zalina has beautiful things and I've been admiring them myself. Amazing how influences come together. I think we have similar taste. :-)

You look like a woman on a mission in this ruby red jacket, Val. I love that you found a secret message. I bought a notepad once where someone had written a message on the first page - "this will be the best day." And the motto Let It Go applies well to my week too. You are right, life IS performance art. Thanks, Val. I like the line, "S'all good dawg."

That is a really cool jacket Val. After finding a tag like that I'd keep it forever!

A post filled with delightful words to ponder as I go through the rainy day that I see outside my window. I love the rain because it feels cleansing and felled with renewal. Your coat with pointy shoulder pads is the perfect piece to wear on a dry or rainy day. One of my favorite colors!

Oh the misspelled word. Filled instead of felled. Need to get my coffee!

That red coat is fab! I love it on you.
I learned long ago to "let it go". My motto is "do your best today" and "be happy exactly as you are".

I love that you are supporting Zalina- what a wonderful way to connect. And what a great cuff!

I've seen a raincoat with the same message- at a thrift shop- but it was a bit too much to purchase- $25, for me at the time. I adore positive messages like that.

Dressed Her Days Vintage always ends her posts with Life is Short. Buy the good stuff. Makes me smile every time.

Your red trench is adorable and how cool was it to find that little message??

My life motto is The Serenity Prayer.

My fashion motto is "Will this outfit get me featured on PeopleofWalmart.com?? No--than I'm good!!"

Now I know the problem, my bracelets say 'seize the day' instead of let it go ;)
great cuff and LOVE the scarf!

Great outfit Val...but the sentiments are more to admire. My son had to recite that very poem (among many others) this year and I about cried every darn time he practiced it! That and Oh Captain My Captain by Whitman. sheesh.

In a less inspiring but still funny tag scenario...Lucky Brand jeans sews "Lucky You" into the fly of their jeans, which made me laugh hysterically the first time I saw it.

Alyssa

What an awesome cuff! I love the secret message in the coat too, as well as your assertive stride picture.

I often have to remind myself to have perspective. How much will this matter in a day? a week? a month?

Isn't Zalina's jewelry just the best? And you look GOOOOD, Sparkly Val, in your work wardrobe. I can imagine you as super-heroine in her street-clothes.
Letting things go has always been a challenge for me ... old age is helping me get there. I've never been good at forgive and forget, either. But I'm learning to sometimes just accept. That gets me over the worst of most rocky events.
Have serene, but fun-packed and stylish week, Val!

Yes! Funny, I was just noticing that I have a garment with a tag inside that says, "Laugh often I also love your garden and your look today!

Hello Val:

Thanks so much for the shout-out. I appreciate you mentioning MY PEACE of jewelry, the purchase and mentioning my MOM. Her memory has been the driving force for me to continue to create.

You wearing the CUFF is so exciting and I hope the CUFF reminds you to "let it go". As you know, it's one's own responsiblity to counter how we react to outside forces.

And, lastly, I love your red jacket. Red is your color!

Best, I will be back and thanks again
Zalina
