Seasonal Greetings

Who is that mysterious figure, flying through the night sky, helping citizens in distress and keeping Gotham free of crime?

It's Old Bat! Swooping in to ask embarrassing questions, tell boring stories, and show her surgery scars to unsuspecting muggers and terrorists until they run away in fright and shame!

The Old Bat was born in a flash of inspiration, followed by a guttural cackle and a snort. I decided that I WAS the Old Bat. I quickly painted an old – and dirty – shirt, pulled together some other old clothes, and got my Bat on for the day.

Halloween is over now, but the shirt lives on.

Now that it's November, there's no way I can pretend there's still a hint of summer in the air. I'm wearing socks, tights, boots, scarves, gloves, hats, coats, camisoles. Of course, that's a good thing - more raw material on my palette.

But I was feeling very chilly in my old profile pic.

So I decided it was time for a seasonal change in my blog presence. Let me know what you think. The background is a photo taken in a small town in the Pyrenees of southern France, Prats de Mollo.

I'm wearing a new headband/earwarmer that I bought in Brownsville on my fun trip with my cousins (see here).

The indoor pictures are drab, but check out the colors outside.

Dear Melanie talked about coming up with a witty post title after she had already published her Mysterious Rabbit post ("Bad Hare Day" – still funny, even a few days late). After I took these pictures and finally looked at them, I thought, "Why didn't I wear that scarf that would have brought all the colors together?"

But I'd already put away the camera and was wearing different clothes and I just wasn't going to go back and reset everything. Sorry.

I'll make it up to you by taking you over to Spy Girl's 52 Pick-me-up (Paint it Black), and the Style Crone's for Hat Attack! Then on to Visible Monday for more New York stories from Patti.

Val

Bwa-ha-ha!! Old bat! Genius. I love the heroic powers of the Old Bat as well. Old dirty T-shirts seem to bring out the best in us. I love your new profile photo. Time for me to update as well... I can at least IMAGINE the hat with the scarf. Dang this slow wit. But you more than make up for it with your battiness.

I was carrying an old tapestry bag today, muttering under my breath about "being" an old bag (why have I only JUST discovered the absolute pleasure of talking to myself? WHY?) ... then bang, you pulled out the Old Bat. Flipping awesome is what it is. Please continue to rock the Old Bat t-shirt long past Halloween ... best thing I've seen this season! xoxo

I LOVE the Old Bat costume. I'll spend the next year putting together my own ('cause someone needs to protect the north-eastern seaboard!)

The new profile pic is wonderful and I've already asked my daughter to make me a headband like yours. It's gorgeous.

Thanks for my morning laugh! Happy weekend.

Leave it to you to come up with 'Old Bat!' Definitely the costume favorite of 2013.

And the headband? Gorgeous! Love the colors and how you shared several viewpoints of its splendor. Thank you so much for displaying its beauty on Hat Attack.

Old Bat, now this a putting a smile on my face! I'm guessing you had a fun day at work wearing this.

This knit band looks great on you. The colors accent your cute glasses and new coat beautifully. Good idea to change your google picture to leaves and the winter head piece. Have a great weekend Val!

You are exactly my kind of superhero, Val - I named yours as a favourite costume in today's post. I am familiar with the superpower of masterful afterthoughts - excellent of both you and Melanie to use the power of blogging to bring it all together! Super!!! The crochet is gorgeous on you, as is the burgundy sweater, and that beautiful blue coat. Glad to seee the scarf, can totally imagine the full effect! :D

You should copyright your design. It's fabulous. I didn't have the energy or time to do much for Halloween this year, but next year? Can I copy you?

Your beautiful headband will look amazing with that scarf. Love it all.

Let's talk profile pic first! Love it, and kudos to you for thinking about changing your profile pic. I bet you've started a trend.

Old Bat...pure Val...Ooops, didn't intend for that to sound as though you are and Old Bat. The intention was to applaud you on your genius way with humour! Well done!

We had a good run of weather this summer though, don't you agree? I can actually feel almost ready for the damp and the grey that is sure to envelope the PNW for the next several months. Though your fair city may be just far enough south to escape much of the gloom.

I'm on the lookout for an "old bat" tee shirt now. That would make the perfect witches costume next year and even tea party theme. I'm still smiling laughing about this post. And by the way, love the new blog header and head wrap.
