Stock Photos

I have not been very inspired lately. I don't really want to take selfies right now - I don't like my hair and I have zits/pimples/spots! I've been missing a lot of possible link-ups. I just don't feel like I have much to say. But I made myself do this post anyway - aren't you glad! So sit back and let the mediocrity roll over you like the scent of wet paper towels.

I took a few pictures in my new-to-me green jacket. It's not shapely - in fact it looks like a bag - but it's comfy and it does what it's supposed to: it's a jacket.

jacket - thrifted; shirt - Crazy Horse with appliques added by me

I wore it with a white shirt with iron-on appliques (previously seen here with the same earrings) and my opal stick pin. The jeans are basic dark blue Lee's.

But thank goodness I've got some photos stockpiled from my Goodwill Four Tops tour (seen here). Let's trot out a few of those photos so we can all remember what my hair looked like before I brutally (and amateurishly) whacked it.

Cardi, boots and tights - Target; Chaps shirt - thrifted; skirt - JCP

I like this outfit, but next time I don't think I'll wear white tights. I'm not sure I like white tights. Maybe I should paint them.

thrifted top - Marks and Spencer; thrifted jeans - Shylo; shoes - Chelsea Crew

I was surprised to find a Marks and Spencer top at the Goodwill here, but it's got nice details and will be a favorite next summer. The color is sort of dove gray, with more blue undertones than you see here.

That's the other thing that has me feeling uninspired - I can't get very good lighting or color unless I spend some time with the dial and the manual for my camera. I should try, but the technical details of photography always dissolve in my brain without leaving anything useful behind. The same thing happens when I've tried to learn backgammon or cribbage - it just doesn't stick. Weird, huh?

thrifted top - Apt. 9; tights - Target; skirt - Christopher & Banks (shortened); belt and cardi - cheap retail
This top is kind of fun, if I can just decide which color of tights to wear with it!

Are you feeling any inspiration, Christmas spirit, your muses or Happy Fairies?

Val

You have lovely skin! I like your hair too. Love the coloured tights (eh, not so much on the white - they never work on me either). I share your frustration with the light right now. It sucks! Bring on spring!

Ooh, I think you could rock whatever color tights you want to, including white. Your legs are killer.

You're right I think that the jacket fits you nicely at the shoulders and bust but is loose at the waist. Still think it looks nice with your collar and pin, though.

Would you like any help with your camera? It took me a while to learn ISO and aperture, but now I think I get it and I've been able to take reasonably lit photos. Does your camera have a manual setting?

I like that gray top. I've had such bad pimples lately I actually had to get acne cream. Wrinkles and acne at the same time?! Uggh. I've been loving how everyone has been layering knee high socks over their tights. I used to do this when I was younger, but it's just too damn hot here in Tampa to even consider it. Socks or tights... Heaven help me, I'd have a heat stroke with both!

Hi Val, how are you? I have a problem with spots at the moment on my chin. They're huge, angry and red and not going away! I can't see yours! I like your new jacket-it's a very bonny colour! Tights colour are super. I also don't like white tights! X

Oh my little Sparlette. You are beautiful. I like your haircut. We all go through these phases. I've been going through one for about umm..50 years or so. So don't despair. Keep the photos coming. Happy fairies. Sparkle plenty. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

You still make me laugh Val!
I'm having the same problem--bad light, bad photos, nothing working out as planned. Almost feel like throwing in the blogging towell as it were but then again...

Ooooh I love your green jacket, and your fantastically colored tights.

I've been rather unfortunate in my lighting. Everything turns out blue. Even messing with the settings. I just wind up missing out on all the good light during the day. So I've been rockin' a lot more black and white looks to compensate for all the blue.

I think it's the holidays. It's a hard time to be creative I find, so much to do and kind of a lot of pressure. The light is so low right now and hard to take pictures outside.

Keep showing your lovely finds. I like your colored tights, they look fun for winter. I always enjoy your writing, humor and honesty. You have an interesting take on blogging!

Welcome to my world Val! I'm feeling it too, and Ann's comment just above is appreciated very much!

I'm feeling blue! Love the blue sweater, blue shoes and blue tights!

Red tights. That's my vote.
Re. your hair, if you hate it that much why not go wild with some heavy-duty styling product? In fact, I like your hair. I hope it grows on you. (bwa-ha-ha, sorry, contrition) If you paint your tights make sure they don't stick to your legs. Re lighting, go to Home Depot. They have great clamp-on construction lights for cheap. Beam it straight into your face. Works a charm every time. Mine aren't working... (my face and my lights)
Overall, I think you look swell in all these photos. Even when you're feeling uninspired, your posts inspire.

Hair grows, spots fade, light improves - this too shall pass! I know how you feel though, I sometimes get in a eugh-the-photos-are-all-crap-and-I-look-shit mood. I just keep blogging through it, and hope no one notices, or if they do, that they are polite enough not to mention it. And of course, our own judgments on how we look, our outfits, photos, etc, tend to be far more critical than anyone else's.
You look just fine, Val. Really truly. Loving all the coloured tights.
Inspiration? Nope, not feeling much of that. Tired; now THAT I feel. But on the plus side, though I may know bugger all about photography, I can play both Backgammon and Cribbage. Go me! xxxxxx

Ah, I guess we all go though those uninspired moments. Try not to put pressure on yourself. I used to think I had to blog and be inspired all the time, but of I'm not feeling it (or just too busy to get hubs to snap me in an outfit), I don't sweat it any more. But it did take time to convince myself this was ok. :) I still get zits and even though I'm drinking gallons of water and heaps of veggies, I don't feel like my skin is any better. Yes, wrinkles and zits (and dry winter skin): it is a mean thing, isn't it - is someone up there having a huge laugh? I like the yellow pants and saucy turquoise shoes combo. Nothing like pops of colour to spice things up. Xo

We all get the blahs every once in a while. Worse I think in winter.

That is totally normal about the camera. I have the same problem when I'm expected to learn any dates, or history. I can however tell you what so and so was wearing and where she bought it. LOL Priorities.

I like the blue tights and I really love your little earrings your are wearing with your green jacket.

bisous

Ha! I've been stockpiling a few photos for when the spirit isn't moving me, as well! I really like all the different colored tights you tried with the final outfit...great color popping!
Alas, hair can make or break our moods...just got mine overhauled yesterday and I know it will take at least a few days to start feeling like it's me looking back in the mirror! Thank goodness hair is a renewable resource!!!

In that last outfit, I think you should carry all three pairs of tights with you and change them out several times throughout the day to see if anyone notices.

I don't think white tights are ever a good idea (just my opinion) but colored tights, yeah boy! I'm liking those yellow pants too! You have lovely hair. Go get an eggnog.

Val, have you considered 'stand up.' I think you would be highly successful, because your posts always have me laughing out loud. And that takes a special skill. I think it's a very high form of intelligence. So keep writing, because you are a really witty read.

And your outfits and poses are also fabulous. The colored tights are add so much pizzazz!

Paint those tights, you did wonders with your jacket.
This time of year has a nasty habit of making everything feel a bit flat. You look great to me. xxx
