100th Post! The Good, The Bad, and The Meh

Here I am at my 100th post! I hoped to hit this milestone at the end of last year, but December didn't really work out as planned. However, it's still January and it's not too late to do a wrap-up of the last year and 99 posts. This is really an exercise for me to see what works and what was laughable. So without further ado, I present to you The Good, The Bad and The Meh.

I'll start with the bad so we can just get that out of the way.

THE BAD

Beautiful thrifted dress that just doesn't fit right, and maybe too sweet for me.
And let's all just agree that white tights are a baaaaaaaad idea.
I was deliberately being a slob here, and I would not wear this in real life. No, really, I wouldn't.
This jacket is going back to Goodwill. It has no shape or style, and the color is too lettucey.

THE MEH

Kind of not really me, but I won't say I'll never wear this again.
Two loose white things? Too loose white things.
Again, not really me - ruffles at the hips. I'll probably take the top back to Buffalo Exchange.
The colors work well, but the jeans look a little sloppy with the top tucked in, I think.

THE GOOD

From a very early post - I love the asymmetric way I wore this top.
This was posted on Facebook before I started the blog. I love the striped skirt with leggings and sandals.
Kind of masculine, but I really like this one. The jacket is actually burgundy, and I like the shirt hanging down below it.
My Marketplace: Handwork of India tunic - a classy and colorful kind of casual.
Well, I just look fabulous here!
Again, fabulous! Although I'm not keeping these sandals - there's nothing comfortable about them.

So, what have we learned here? I'm not sure, but as I was looking back through old posts I realized two things. One is that I did hit a slump a month or so ago. And it may be related to the second thing I realized - I really miss sunny days! But I think my slump is slipping away because I already have ideas for more posts, starting with showing you some new shoes next time (two new pairs - it was retail therapy!).

Now it's time to do another giveaway. I've closed my Etsy shop because it was just a waste of space. That's okay, some of my products were a waste of space, too. But I've picked out something that I think is pretty cool, and I'm going to give it away.

A pair of Purple Paisley earrings. The wires are nickel-free, and the oval bit is paper covered in resin. The little paisley charms hang independently from the ovals.

As with my previous giveaway, if you're interested in entering to win, just mention a city in your comment. I've randomly selected a city somewhere in the world – it's well known enough that you should be able to think of it without looking at a map – and whoever comes closest geographically will win the earrings. I'll announce the winner in about a week.

But I'll be back before then to show you my new shoes. For now I'll just say this - red alligator!

Ooooh, Val, you are certainly your own worst critic - as we all are I suppose. I particularly like the two loose things. But I do have to draw the line in my own closet as well when something is too lettucey. Ha!
I hope you are not discouraged with your art-making. I have piles and piles of art stuff that hasn't sold for years. If you have the space, I hope you hang on to at least some of it. You are such an artful, creative, life-force person. These earrings are exquisite. If you keep the den, then the city I'll pick is London.
I look forward to seeing your retail therapy. Hugs.

Congratulations on your 100th post, Val!
One benefit of blogging is that we learn more about ourselves and more about our appearance. Even in your "bad" I see a little bit of "Val style", more in the "meh" and a lot of in the "good". My favorite is to see you in the wonderful Indian tunic.
I look forward to see more of you and your stylish experiments.

Excuse me, I forgot: Glasgow is the city I choose.

Blogging is a fascinating way of re-assessing your wardrobe and style, I think. Photos often make me think again about pieces/combinations, more so than just looking in the mirror. I don't think any of your "bad" or "meh" categories are terrible, but if your review has helped you make decisions about what stays/what goes, styles or colours that work or don't, then it's a useful process. and the red dress-and-laughing photo is still a favourite!
Good to know you are feeling more energised and motivated about blogging, I think we all have slumps now and then. Gorgeous earrings - I say Prague, one of my most favourite cities I have been to. xxxx

I always enjoy reading your posts. They bring a smile, your sense of humor is much like mine. The city that comes to mind is San Diego.

I think you are to hard on yourself as Melanie says. Maybe blogging gives us all a window into how we look and we all have the choice to change and alter it until we feel good.

I also have piles of stuff I've made that doesn't sell. I hope this doesn't discourage you.......keep making things if you enjoy it. Etsy is so big and overpopulated. I think it's hard to be seen. My city is London.

I love it when you wrote, "Well I just look fabulous here" cause you did!

Etsy is just too big. I can't sell any of my jewelry on there. Don't let it discourage you though.

Nice is my city : )

bisous

I don't think any of those "bad" or "meh" outfits are THAT bad, Val- you're being awfully hard on yourself. I do adore that asymmetrical striped top! Looking forward to your posts (as always), but yes, the blah weather and lighting are always challenging this time of year.

Ok--Baltimore
LOL--Finally at the laptop so I can comment (I've been reading your posts but commenting from the Kindle is craptastic)

I like your retrospective--seeing the photographic "evidence" sometimes helps us see what is real and what works and what doesn't.

I really like the asymmetric top outfit. and I rather like you in the more bolder galss frames.

Congratulations on your 100 posts! outfits and clothing are a funny thing sometimes, I feel like it's a relationship with them, sometimes it's time to say goodbye when they aren't right for us anymore (oh how dramatic am I!?? hehe) I did like your 2 loose white things and rose dress, the masculine edge outfit and your fabulous laughing! (the city I pick is Liverpool for your beautiful earring giveaway) and I look forward to the red alligator shoes! x x x

Happy 100th! And I love the loose whites on you; you look cool and carefree and slim.

My city is Montreal!

Hi Val!

First congrats for the 100 post!
Quite an achievement!
Second I think you are bit hard on yourself - Some outfits are better than others but I think all outfits are great and represent you well in some ways, they all show a facet your personality - They all have the unique Val signature -

My fav or fav is the Indian tunic -
The shot is marvelous girl! You are perfect, the light, the expression, the outfit- Extraordinaire!

Hugs

Oh, 100th post! Omedetou gozaimasu! (That's me practicing the rudimentary Japanese I pick up when I'm in my anime phase.)

I ditto what all the lovely ladies ahead of me have said - you are your own worst critic. I could totally see remixing ever piece from your "bad" and "meh" categories and totally making them work. Hrm...a blog challenge perhaps? ;p

That shot of you laughing in the red tunic is superb. Makes me reiterate once again that a smile is the best possible accessory.

I was going to pick London as I am a huge Anglophile and I'm miserable at geography. But since it's taken, my city is Cardiff since that's where they do principal photogrpahy for Doctor Who. :D

I liked the two loose white things. But the asymetric sweater was yowza! If I could hit the road right now, I would lope to San Diego,

Congratulations on your 100th post...please keep going because you're so amusing and carefree! I adore reading your blog! The Etsy consensus is that there's too much there AND it's hard to find things. I, too, have lots of older art pieces lying around...someday they'll find their rightful owners! Love you "I look fabulous" shot! For your give-away, I pick London. JUST KIDDING! How about St. Petersburg for me?

Congratulations on reaching 100 posts - it's good to take a moment and appreciate how much time and effort it takes to reach this milestone.

I think you've developed a good eye for what shapes and colours work for you. If you notice in the photos of what you decided were "good" outfits, it shows in your face that you are wearing something that makes you feel good.

I will choose my beloved New York as my giveaway city.

You're funny Val. I love your hair. You are a great inspiration in your spirit; to be carefree, wholesome and FUN! Thank you for some great ideas here (and some things not to do, too. lol)

wait, what's wrong with the white tights in that second photo?? I think that outfit is ADORABLE! And I'm not going to enter the drawing, my earholes are a little too stretched out for pretty little earring like that. I need industrial steel pipes to fill my lobes!

Love the peace sign. From Eugene, right? Ah, I'm from Portland and miss it terribly. But the city I choose is Pretoria, South Africa.

Yesterday I was wearing your brooch! I LOOOOVE it- a little pearly/wiry man with a rosette on his lapel. I LOOOOOVE it. I get that youre closing your shop- too much time- but wish you'd just keep doing your cool stuff- and let someone else sell it (ahem ahem)

I like the stripe skirt with the bad tights and the great leggings, hope you are still playing with that. The photos show your "blooming" confidence a side effect I think of #ootd photos and selfies. Know youre up to something new- looking forward to its unveiling!
